The Narrative: Early Autumn is the season of "Gathering." The work of the year is complete, and now the barns are filled. It is a time of thanksgiving and abundance, but also a time of judgment—separating the wheat from the chaff. It reminds us of the Final Harvest, where God will gather His people and we will feast at His table.
Generosity: Sharing the overflow of the harvest.
Psalm 126:6
"Those who go out weeping, carrying seed to sow, will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with them."
Prayer for the Season:
"Lord of the Harvest, thank You for the abundance You have provided. Help me to gather what is good, share what I have, and trust You for the winter to come."
Foods: Apple Pie, Roasted Squash, Cider, Root Stews.
Activity: The Harvest Festival. Decorate the porch with the fruits of your labor (corn shocks, pumpkins).
Apple Picking: Go to the orchard. Teach the children how to twist the apple gently so the branch isn't hurt.
The Question: "Why do leaves change color? (Hint: The green chlorophyll goes away, revealing the red and gold that was hiding underneath!)."
