Unit 1: Garden Planning

"Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established." — Proverbs 16:3

"Lord, teach me to number my rows and my days. May my plan reflect Your order and Your generosity."

Lesson 1.1: Spacing and Stewardship

1. The Math of Spacing: You have a garden bed that is 48 inches long.

A. If a tomato plant needs 24 inches of space, how many can you fit?
B. If a carrot needs 2 inches of space, how many can you fit?
C. Why can we plant more carrots than tomatoes? __________________________________

2. The Master Blueprint: Use the grid below to map out your 4x4 area. Label your rows. (1 square = 6 inches)
Creation-CRP: The Repair Bench

The Broken Logic: "I'll just plant everything in one big pile and it will be like a jungle!"

The Fix: Draw a picture of two plants. Plant A is in a "Jungle Pile" with no sun. Plant B is in its "Assigned Space" with its arms wide open. Circle the one that will produce the most fruit.

Lesson 1.2: Timing the Harvest

3. Counting Back: Your Average Last Frost date is May 15th.

A. Peppers need to start 8 weeks BEFORE frost. What is your start date? _____________
B. Peas can be sown 4 weeks BEFORE frost. What is your start date? _____________
C. If a pumpkin takes 100 days to grow, and you plant it on June 1st, will it be ready for October 1st?

4. The Steward's Inventory: Look at 3 seed packets. Write their names and their "Days to Maturity" (DTM).
Plant Name DTM (Days to Grow)
Signet Challenge: The Planning Vow
