The Sower’s Drink

"I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground." — Isaiah 44:3
The sun was big and yellow in the sky. Eli was playing with his blue truck, but he stopped when he saw the zucchini plant.

Its big, fuzzy leaves were hanging down. They looked tired. They looked very, very thirsty.

"Dad!" Eli called. "The zucchini is taking a nap!"

Dad laughed. "It's not a nap, Eli. It's thirsty! On hot days, the garden needs a drink just like you do. But the plants can't walk to the sink. They are waiting for their Sower to help them."

Eli grabbed his green watering can. *Glug, glug, glug!* He filled it with cool water and walked carefully to the zucchini.

Mercy in a Can

When the rain doesn't fall from the sky, God asks US to be the rain! Every time we pour water on a dry plant, we are showing Mercy. Mercy means helping someone who cannot help themselves.

The Big Truth A faithful Sower doesn't wait for the plant to ask. He checks the garden every morning to see who needs help!

How Plants Drink

Plants don't have mouths like we do. They drink through their roots, which are hidden under the ground. Roots are like tiny, fuzzy straws. They pull the water up from the soil and send it all the way to the top of the leaves!

The Sower’s Secret!
Always water the bottom of the plant. If you just get the leaves wet, the roots might stay dry! Pour the water right on the "feet" of the plant so it can drink deep.
Activity: The Morning Patrol

Tomorrow morning, put on your sun hat and go outside. Use your finger to feel the dirt. If it feels dry like a cracker, give your plant a drink! If it feels cool and damp, your plant is already full.
