Unit 4: Comparing

"A just weight is his delight." β€” Proverbs 11:1

Lesson 4.1: Eyes for Abundance

"Lord, give me eyes to see the truth. Let me not be fooled by big spaces or small piles, but help me to judge the true amount."
1. Visual Judgment: Without counting, circle the group that has MORE.

2. The Density Trick: Look carefully! Circle the group that has MORE dots.
●     ●     ●
(Spread Out)

(Bunched Up)

The bigger number is:

3. The Buddy Rule: Draw a line to match each Star to a Moon. Circle the group that has leftovers.

Math-CRP: The Eye-Trick Repair

The Rupture: A student says the spread-out group is "More" just because it looks bigger.

The Fix: "Space is a trick! Use your counting finger to find the truth. Count the small bunched-up group. Is it 5? Count the big spread-out group. Is it 3? Which number is the King? (5). So the small pile is actually the Winner! Don't let the empty space fool you."

Signet Challenge: The Honest Judge

Task: Your mentor will put two piles of beans on the table (one spread out, one bunched). You must point to the one that has 'More' instantly. Then use the Buddy Rule to prove it.

Verification: Did the Buddy Rule prove your guess? [ ] Yes

Echad Extension: Sharing the Plate

Mission: Make two plates of snacks. One big, one small. Ask a sibling: "Which plate has more?" Then ask: "How can we make them EQUAL?"

Completed? [ ] Yes

Lesson 4.2: The Perfect Balance

"Lord, teach me to be a maker of peace. Let my life be balanced and true, just like the Equal Sign. Help me to see that truth is a level path."
1. Is it Balanced? Look at the groups. Write YES if they are equal (=) or NO if they are not.
● ● ●   vs   ● ● ●   βž”
● ●   vs   ● ● ● ●   βž”
5   vs   5   βž”
7   vs   2   βž”
10   vs   10   βž”
1   vs   0   βž”
2. The Mirror Rule: In the mirror, 5 always sees 5. Fill in the missing side.
3 =
8 =
0 =
3. Make it Equal: Draw enough dots to balance the scale.
● ● ● ●
(Draw)

(Draw)
4. The Missing Buddy: Someone took a dot! Add the missing dot to make it EQUAL.

● ● ●     =     ● ● ?

5. Truth-Reading: Circle the level scales. Cross out the tilted scales.
$4 = 4$
$9 = 1$
$6 = 6$
Math-CRP: The Balance Repair

The Rupture: A student writes $5 = 3$ because they don't understand the sign.

The Fix: "Imagine a seesaw! If a 5 sits on one side and a 3 sits on the other, will it be straight? No! The 5 will crash down. To use the Equal Sign, the seesaw must be straight. We must either add 2 to the small side, or take 2 from the big side. Balance is Truth!"

Fix this: $5$ =

Signet Challenge: The Level Master

Task: Take 8 blocks. Make two piles that are exactly EQUAL. Put a pencil between them to show the Equal Sign. Tell your mentor: "These are balanced!"

Verification: Did you make two piles of 4? [ ] Yes

Echad Extension: The Shared Treat

Mission: Get a handful of berries or crackers. Make two EQUAL pilesβ€”one for you, one for a sibling. Show them the piles and say: 'It is fair because it is Equal!'

Completed? [ ] Yes

Lesson 4.3: The Hungry Alligator

"Lord, teach me the direction of Your flow. I will not turn my back on the abundance, but I will recognize where the blessing is great."
1. Chomp the Biggest! Write $>$ or $<$ in the circle. Remember, Albert's mouth opens to the big meal!
8   β—‹   3
2   β—‹   10
9   β—‹   1
4   β—‹   7
6   β—‹   0
2. Draw the Teeth: Draw sharp teeth inside the symbol that is eating the bigger number.
5 < 9       10 > 4
3. Truth-Reading: Read the sentence out loud. Circle TRUE or FALSE.
$2 < 5$ (Two is less than five)   [ TRUE / FALSE ]
$8 < 1$ (Eight is less than one)   [ TRUE / FALSE ]
$6 > 4$ (Six is greater than four)   [ TRUE / FALSE ]
4. The Missing Number: Write a number to make the sentence true.

5 >      2 <      9 >

Math-CRP: The Backward Mouth Repair

The Rupture: A student writes $2 > 8$ because they are confused about direction.

The Fix: "Oh no! Albert is turning his back on the feast! He is trying to eat the tiny 2. He will be hungry! Turn him around. Make the big mouth face the big number. The small point touches the small number."

Fix this: $3 > 9$   βž”   $3$ $9$

Signet Challenge: The Alligator's Judge

Task: Your mentor will show you two number cards. You must make the Alligator Mouth with your arms pointing to the winner.

Verification: 5 vs 2 ($>$). 3 vs 8 ($<$). 6 vs 6 ($=$). Did you get all 3? [ ] Yes

Echad Extension: The Chomping Game

Mission: Write numbers on the sidewalk. Stand between them and use your arms to show which is Greater. Teach a friend: 'The mouth eats the most!'

Completed? [ ] Yes

Lesson 4.4: The Merchant’s Judgment

"Lord, grant me a steady hand and a clear mind as I count the different fruits of Your earth. Let my judgment be fair and my symbols be true."
1. Count and Compare: Count each group. Write the King Number below the group. Then write $>$ or $<$ in the middle circle.
🍎 🍎 🍎 🍎
β—‹
🍐 🍎 🍐
⭐ ⭐
β—‹
⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
2. Mixed Sets: Circle the set that is **Greater**.
πŸš— πŸš— πŸš— πŸš— πŸš— πŸš—
🚲 🚲 🚲 🚲 🚲 🚲 🚲 🚲
3. Memory Lock: Count the first group. Write the number. Now count the second. Don't forget the first King!

Group A: ( ● ● ● ● ● )   βž”
Group B: ( ● ● ● )   βž”
Comparison: (A > B)

Math-CRP: The Memory Leak Repair

The Rupture: A student counts Group A correctly, but forgets the number while counting Group B.

The Fix: "Lock the King! When you find the first number, write it down immediately on your 'Scribe Pad'. He stays there so he doesn't run away while you work on the next group."

Signet Challenge: The Wise Steward

Task: Find two bowls. Put 4 spoons in one and 6 forks in the other. Tell your mentor which set is Greater and which is Less.

Verification: Read the comparison: "Spoons are Forks."

Echad Extension: Comparing the Family

Mission: Count your shoes. Count your mentor's shoes. Use your arms to show who has Greater. Tell your mentor: 'I counted our provision!'

Completed? [ ] Yes

Lesson 4.5: The Concept of Enough

"Lord, give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me. Teach me the joy of Enough."
1. The Table Setting: You have 5 friends coming over. You have 4 chairs. Do you have ENOUGH?

[ YES / NO ]     (Need: 5, Have: 4)

2. Shared Purse Logic: You have 10 crackers. You only need 6 to be full.

How many "extra" crackers do you have to share?

(Hint: 10 is greater than 6 by how many?)

3. The Storehouse: Draw lines to match the Supply to the Need.
NEED:
3 Apples
2 Hats
5 Shoes
HAVE:
5 Shoes (= Enough)
1 Hat (< Not Enough)
10 Apples (> Plenty!)
Math-CRP: The Scarcity Repair

The Rupture: A student wants the pile of 10 blocks, even though their box only holds 2.

The Fix: "Bigger isn't always better! If you take 10, they won't fit. You will have a mess. The best number is the one that FITS the need. Let's find the 2 blocks that fit perfectly."

Signet Challenge: The Shared Purse

Task: Get a bowl of snacks. Count out exactly enough for everyone in the room to have 3 pieces. Do not take more than you need.

Verification: Did you have any leftovers? Did anyone go hungry? [ ] Perfect Balance

Echad Extension: The Enough Report

Mission: Check the shoe rack. Does everyone have a pair of shoes? Tell your mom: "We have enough shoes!" or "We need more shoes!"

Completed? [ ] Yes

Unit 4 Summary: Signet Graduation

C.A.M.E. Verification Node: The Truth of Balance

A student looks at $3 < 8$. He says: "This means three is greater than eight because the big mouth is pointing at the eight."

Is the student telling the Truth? Remember the rule of reading Left-to-Right. If we read the sentence starting with 3, what is the correct word for the symbol? Explain the Alligator's rule.

Verdict:

The Signet Vow of the Just Steward

"I, a young Steward of God's gifts, promise to judge with a just weight. I will recognize the abundance, honor the balance, and always seek the truth of more, less, and enough. I will share my extra with joy."
