"Many members, yet but one body." — 1 Corinthians 12:20
Red Part: Blue Part:
The Rupture: A student counts "1, 2" for the first part and then "1, 2, 3, 4, 5" for the second part (counting all items again).
The Fix: "Once a part moves into its own room, it can't be in the other room! Let's physically separate them. Move 2 blocks to the left. How many are left for the right? (3). Now count them. 2 and 3. Do not count the whole pile twice!"
Task: Build a tower of 4 blocks. Break it into two parts. Tell your mentor: 'The whole is 4. The parts are ___ and ___.'
Verification: Did you find both parts correctly? [ ] Yes
Mission: Break a cracker or cookie into two parts. Give one part to a sibling. Tell them: 'This was one whole, now it is two parts for us to share!'
Completed? [ ] Yes

The Rupture: A student puts the largest number in a bottom circle instead of the top 'Whole' circle.
The Fix: "Wait! The 'Whole' is the Captain. The Captain must sit in the circle with TWO arms reaching out. He is the one who holds everyone together. Does a tiny part hold the Captain? No! The Captain holds the parts. Let's move the big number to the Captain's chair."
Task: Your mentor will give you a Whole (e.g., 6) and one Part (e.g., 2). You must find the missing Part using blocks and say the name correctly.
Verification: 6 is 2 and . Did you find it? [ ] Yes
Mission: Draw a Number Bond on a piece of paper. Hide one part with your hand. Ask a sibling or parent to guess who is hiding in the empty circle!
Completed? [ ] Yes
6 + = 10
3 + = 10
9 + = 10
5 + = 10
(Draw arches connecting 0-10, 1-9, 2-8, 3-7, 4-6)
The Rupture: A student says "7 and 4 make 10."
The Fix: "Let's check the bus! Put 7 dots on your Ten-Frame. How many empty seats are left? (3). Does 4 fit in 3 seats? No! It would be too many. So 7's true friend is 3. Write the correct pair."
7 and make 10.
Task: Have your mentor shout a number from 0 to 10. You must shout back the number that makes 10 instantly.
Verification: 8 ➔ 1 ➔ 5 ➔
Mission: Get a deck of cards (Ace-9). Play a game with a sibling. Instead of matching pairs, you must match pairs that add up to 10 (like 6 and 4)!
Completed? [ ] Yes
7 + 3 =
The Rupture: A student counts to 10 but refuses to 'bundle' the sticks or circles, leaving them scattered.
The Fix: "Wait! A Ten is a family. If they stay loose, they aren't a Ten yet—they are just ten lonely ones. To become a Ten, they must be bundled. Draw a tight rubber band around your 10 dots to finish the work."
Task: Get two piles of LEGOs or blocks (e.g., 7 and 3). Combine them into a single strong tower. Show it to your mentor.
Verification: Is the tower 10 blocks high? [ ] Yes
Mission: When cleaning up your toys, try to 'compose' them into groups of 10. Put 10 cars in one box. Put 10 blocks in one bag. Tell a sibling: 'I'm making bundles!'
Completed? [ ] Yes
10 - 3 =
So we can share/give with others.
The Rupture: A student gives away a part but forgets to count what is left, thinking the rest of the Ten has vanished.
The Fix: "Wait! The Ten didn't disappear—it just split. If you give 2 away, the other 8 are still here. They are just in a different pile. Count your leftovers to restore the truth of the Whole."
Task: Gather 10 small snacks (pretzels or grapes). Decompose the Ten into two piles: One for you and one for your mentor. Tell them the numbers!
Verification: Mentor check: [ ] Passed
Mission: Explain to a friend or sibling: 'I had ten, but I broke it to give you some! Now we both have a part.' Show them the math sentence.
Completed? [ ] Yes
A student sees a Number Bond with 10 in the whole circle. The parts are 5 and 4.
Is the student telling the Truth? Count 5 and 4 on your fingers. Do they compose 10? What is the correct "Friend of Ten" for the number 5? Use the word 'Justice' or 'Fairness' in your explanation.
Verdict:
"I, a young Builder of Unity, promise to see the parts that make the whole. I will honor the connections between numbers, knowing that just as many members make one body, many parts make one Ten. I will use my skill to build and to share, for God is the author of unity and peace."
