"There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth..." — Proverbs 11:24
"I sowed 2 coins to help a friend."
8 - 3 =
5 - 3 =
- =
The Rupture: A student sees $5 - 2$ and writes 7 because they added the numbers.
The Fix: "Pause! Look at the sign. Is it a Plus Cross (+)? No. It is a Minus Dash (-). The Dash means things are leaving the house. If you have 5 and 2 leave, do you have more? (No). Use your fingers to show 5, then hide 2. How many are left? (3). Fix your sum!"
Task: Gather 10 blocks or toys. Give 4 of them to your mentor as a 'gift'. Tell them the math story of your pile.
Verification: "I had 10, I gave 4, now I have left."
Mission: Break a whole snack (like a graham cracker or an orange) into parts. Give some parts to a sibling. Tell them: 'I am subtracting from my pile to add to yours!'

[ YES / NO ] (Why? )
Answer:
The Rupture: A student stands on 7, says "One", then moves to 6. They count their starting spot as a jump.
The Fix: "Freeze! Imagine you are jumping over a river. If you stay on the bank and count 'One', did you jump yet? No! You have to land on the first stone to count 'One'. Try again. Stand on 7. Say 'Go'. Jump to 6 and say 'One'. Jump to 5 and say 'Two'. Where did you land?"
Task: Count down from 10 to 0 while performing a task (like putting away 10 toys). You must say every number correctly.
Verification: Perfect countdown? [ ] Yes
Mission: Show a sibling or friend how to walk backward while counting. Tell them: 'We are subtracting one step at a time!'
Completed? [ ] Yes
How many "extra" blocks does the tall tower have?
Gap: coins. ($10 - 8 = $)
There are more stars than moons.
The Rupture: A student hears "How many more?" and thinks they should add the numbers together.
The Fix: "Wait! If I ask who is taller, do we stand on each other's heads? No! We stand side-by-side. 'How many more' is looking for the GAP, not the pile. Put them next to each other. Count only the space where the short one ended and the tall one kept going."
Task: Find two books of different sizes. Measure the gap between them with your fingers. Use blocks to match the height of the small book and the tall book.
Verification: "The difference is blocks."
Mission: Find a sibling who has fewer blocks or toys than you. Calculate the 'Difference' and give them exactly that many items so you both have an EQUAL amount!

The missing member is:
The Rupture: A student writes $4 - 10 = 6$ because they are in a house with 10, 6, and 4.
The Fix: "Uh oh! If you have 4 cookies, can you give me 10? No! The Big Boss (The Whole) always leads the line in subtraction. He is the provider. 10 must come first. Fix the sentence below."
10 - = 6
Task: Choose a family of 3 numbers. Draw their triangle house and tell your mentor the 4 stories of that family.
Verification: 4 correct sentences? [ ] Yes
Mission: Explain to a sibling that Addition and Subtraction are part of the same family. Show them how $2+1=3$ also means $3-1=2$.
Completed? [ ] Yes
So we can with others.
The Rupture: A student writes $5 - 0 = 0$ because they saw the zero and got confused.
The Fix: "If you have 5 cookies and I take ZERO cookies, do you have zero left? No! You still have all your cookies! Zero means 'Do nothing'. The 5 stays safe. Correct your answer."
Task: Solve these 3 riddles: I am 6 and I lose nothing. Who am I? (6). I am 4 and I lose 4. Who am I? (0). I am 9 and I lose 0. Who am I? (9).
Verification: Instant answers? [ ] Yes
Mission: Find a messy paper or a chalkboard. Subtract ALL the markings (clean it!). Show your mentor the 'Zero' that remains. Explain: 'Subtracting all leaves a clean slate!'
Completed? [ ] Yes
A student has 3 cookies. He says: "If I give you 5 cookies, I will have 2 left."
Is the student telling the Truth? Look at your own hands. If you have 3, can you give away 5? Explain why the "Big Boss" (The Whole) must be at the start of a subtraction problem. Use the word 'Stewardship' in your answer.
Verdict:
"I, a young Giver in God's world, promise to use my subtraction skills with honesty. I will identify the gaps, tell the truth about the difference, and always remember that giving a part away is how we steward the whole for God's glory."
