Unit 1 Workbook: The Fast Track

The Navigator's Vocabulary Bank

Factor: The numbers we multiply together. (The "Makers").

Product: The final answer. (The "Fruit").

Equal Groups: Sets that have exactly the same amount. Multiplication ONLY works with these!

Groups Of: The secret translation for the × symbol.

Repeated Addition: The slow way to multiply ($2+2+2$).

Elevator: Our nickname for multiplication because it goes to the top faster than addition stairs.

Justice: In math, it means keeping the groups equal and the weights just.

Lesson 1.1: Counting by Baskets (The Power of Groups)

Scribe's Hint: Stop counting one-by-one! Train your eyes to see the "Baskets" first. The Count of Baskets is the first factor, and the Size of the Group is the second factor.

Part 1: The Scribe's Vision
Identify the number of groups and the size of each group.

1. Look: (●●) (●●) (●●). Groups: ____ Size: ____ Total: ____
2. Look: (●●●) (●●●). Groups: ____ Size: ____ Total: ____
3. Look: (●) (●) (●) (●). Groups: ____ Size: ____ Total: ____
4. Look: (●●●●●) (●●●●●). Groups: ____ Size: ____ Total: ____
5. Draw It: Draw 3 groups of 4 stones.

Part 2: Group Detective
Fill in the missing information.

6. I see 2 pairs of socks. How many groups? ____ How many total? ____
7. I see 5 baskets with 2 apples in each. Total: ____
8. I see 3 nests with 3 eggs in each. Total: ____
9. I see 4 hands. Each hand has 5 fingers. Total: ____
10. Master Thinking: If you have 10 groups of 1, how many do you have? ____

Verification Node: The Grouping Law

Scenario: A student counts 12 dots. He says, "I have 12 groups of 1!" Another student says, "I have 1 group of 12!"

The Truth: Who is right? Can both stories be true? Explain how we can group the same number in different ways.

Lesson 1.2: The Elevator (Addition vs. Multiplication)

Scribe's Hint: Addition is the staircase (slow). Multiplication is the elevator (fast). Both lead to the same floor, but the elevator is the Navigator's choice!

Part 1: Stairs to Elevator
Convert the addition stairs into a multiplication elevator.

1. $2 + 2 + 2 + 2 =$ ____ $\implies 4 \times 2 =$ ____
2. $5 + 5 + 5 =$ ____ $\implies 3 \times 5 =$ ____
3. $10 + 10 =$ ____ $\implies 2 \times 10 =$ ____
4. $3 + 3 + 3 + 3 =$ ____ $\implies 4 \times 3 =$ ____
5. $4 + 4 + 4 =$ ____ $\implies 3 \times 4 =$ ____

Part 2: Elevator to Stairs
Show the addition steps inside these multiplication problems.

6. $2 \times 5 \implies $ ____ $+$ ____ $=$ 10
7. $3 \times 2 \implies $ ____ $+$ ____ $+$ ____ $=$ 6
8. $4 \times 1 \implies $ ____ $+$ ____ $+$ ____ $+$ ____ $=$ 4
9. $2 \times 8 \implies $ ____ $+$ ____ $=$ 16
10. Critical Check: Does $1 \times 5$ need an addition sign? Why or why not?

Lesson 1.3: Translating the Code (Groups Of)

Scribe's Hint: The '×' sign is a fallen cross. It means "Groups Of." Every time you see it, say those words out loud. It will help your mind see the baskets!

Part 1: The Kingdom Translation
Translate the math code into the language of the Scribe.

1. $3 \times 4$ means: ____ groups of ____
2. $2 \times 10$ means: ____ groups of ____
3. $5 \times 2$ means: ____ groups of ____
4. $4 \times 3$ means: ____ groups of ____
5. $6 \times 1$ means: ____ groups of ____

Part 2: Code to Picture
Write the code for each description.

6. "Seven groups of five" $\implies$ ____ $\times$ ____
7. "Two groups of eight" $\implies$ ____ $\times$ ____
8. "Three groups of nine" $\implies$ ____ $\times$ ____
9. "Ten groups of ten" $\implies$ ____ $\times$ ____
10. Master Check: Does $4 \times 5$ mean the same as $5 \times 4$? (Yes/No) Why?
11. $8 \times 2$ means: ____ groups of ____
12. $1 \times 10$ means: ____ groups of ____

Verification Node: The Name of the Sign

Scenario: A student reads $3 \times 5$ as "three plus five."

The Rupture: If he solves the problem, what answer will he get? (8). But what is the Product of 3 groups of 5? (15). Explain how one tiny sign can change the whole truth.

Lesson 1.4: The Fair Share Rule (Justice)

Scribe's Hint: Multiplication is a Sacred Privilege. You can only use it if every group is Equal. If the groups are different sizes, you must stay on the staircase of Addition!

Part 1: The Multiplication Jury
Circle MULTIPLY if the groups are equal. Circle ADD if they are not.

1. ( 4 ) ( 4 ) ( 4 ) $\implies$ [ MULTIPLY / ADD ]
2. ( 5 ) ( 5 ) ( 2 ) $\implies$ [ MULTIPLY / ADD ]
3. ( 10 ) ( 10 ) $\implies$ [ MULTIPLY / ADD ]
4. ( 1 ) ( 1 ) ( 1 ) ( 1 ) $\implies$ [ MULTIPLY / ADD ]
5. ( 3 ) ( 2 ) ( 1 ) $\implies$ [ MULTIPLY / ADD ]

Part 2: Creating Justice
Fix the unequal groups so they can be multiplied.

6. ( 5 ) ( 4 ). Change them to two groups of ____.
7. ( 2 ) ( 3 ) ( 2 ). Change them to three groups of ____.
8. Draw It: Draw two groups that are not equal.
9. Draw It: Draw two groups that are equal.
10. Master Thinking: Why does God love a "Just Weight"? (Proverbs 11:1). How does this help us in math?

Lesson 1.5: Stacking Towers (Vertical Multiplication)

Scribe's Hint: When we build a tower, we put the Room Size at the top and the Floor Count at the bottom. The fruit of our labor, the Product, lives in the basement!

Part 1: Building the Towers
Solve these multiplication towers. Show the addition steps in your mind!

Part 2: Vertical Stewardship
Write these problems vertically and find the Product.

7. "Two groups of six."
8. "Three groups of five."
9. "Two groups of ten."
10. Final Check: What is the special name for the answer at the bottom of the tower?

Parent Mentor Guide: The Fast Track

The Goal: This unit introduces the concept of Multiplication as an efficient way to handle abundance. The student should stop seeing individual items and start seeing Groups. This is a massive shift in thinking from addition.

Key Habits to Watch:

Spiritual Connection: Multiplication is the math of the Kingdom. God doesn't just want to add to our lives; He wants to multiply our peace, our joy, and our capacity to serve others. Fast math means fast service! Remind them of the five loaves and two fish. God is the Master of the Fast Track!

The Navigator's Fast Track Vow

"I, ____________________________, a Navigator of Abundance, promise to seek the pattern in the Many. I will honor the Law of Justice by keeping my groups equal. I will use the Multiplication Elevator to reach the truth with speed and joy. Hallelujah!"
