Edition 5 • Unit 1: The Shattered Vase
"We see the Whole in every piece. We honor the 1 in every fragment."
Welcome back, young Steward. You have walked through the first four houses of the Kingdom of Math. You have learned to build with Addition, to prune with Subtraction, to grow with Multiplication, and to share with Division. But today, the King has a new lesson for you. He leads you to a table where a single, beautiful blue vase sits in the light.
"This is the One," Eliyah says, his voice soft. "It is whole. It is complete. It represents the Unity of God—the Echad. But the world we live in is not always whole. Sometimes, things break. Sometimes, we must divide a single blessing among many brothers. And a Master Steward must know how to handle the pieces."
In this unit, we enter the world of **Fractions**. We stop looking at groups of thousands and start looking *inside* the number One. We discover that even a single object can be a vast universe of parts. We learn that every fragment has a name and every piece has a purpose. Are you ready to look closer?
Why do we spend so much time on "parts of a whole" before we teach the arithmetic of fractions?
Modern education often rushes to the algorithm (top times top, bottom times bottom). But this leads to a "fractured" understanding. Children learn to manipulate symbols without understanding the reality they represent. They see $1/2 + 1/2 = 2/4$ because they are just adding numbers, not combining realities.
In HavenHub, we linger in the **phenomenology** of the fraction. We want the child to *feel* the difference between a half and a quarter. We want them to understand that the denominator is a **Family Name**, not a quantity. We want them to see that equality is a moral imperative, not just a geometric rule.
By grounding them in the "Shattered Vase" narrative, we give them a mental hook for all future abstractions. When they later encounter complex algebra, they will remember: "I am just looking for the pieces of the vase."
This Reader is not just a textbook; it is a storybook. Read one chapter a day with your child. Pause at the questions. Let them hold the "vase" (or apple) in their hands. The goal is not to finish the page, but to open the eyes. When you see a fraction in the real world—a slice of pie, a quarter of an hour—stop and say, "Look! A fragment of the King!" This builds the habit of seeing math everywhere.
Fractions in the stars and the sand.
Look up at the night sky. The moon is a master teacher of fractions. Every month, it acts out a story. It starts as an empty sliver (1/28). It grows to a Quarter. Then a Half. Then a Gibbous (3/4). And finally, the Full Whole. But it doesn't stop there. It gives it all back. It wanes. The moon teaches us that fractions are not just static shapes; they are a cycle. We fill up to pour out.
How small can a fraction go? Look at a grain of sand. Inside that sand are atoms. And inside the atoms are protons. And inside the protons are quarks. The King's creation goes down, down, down into infinite fractions. And how big? Our sun is just a fraction of the galaxy. Our galaxy is just a fraction of the universe. We are living in the middle of a Great Scale. We are small enough to be loved, but big enough to know the King.
Pythagoras discovered that if you cut a string in half (1/2), it sings the same note, but higher. This is the Octave. If you cut it into 2/3, it sings the Fifth. The beauty of music comes from the precision of fractions. When we sing praise to God, we are singing math.
Before closing this book, ask yourself these questions:
1. The Intent: Why do we name the pieces? Is it just to count them? No. We name them to honor the Whole. If we lose a piece, we dishonor the vase.
2. The Neighbor: When you cut a cake, who is the fraction for? Is it for you, or for your brother? A Master Steward cuts for the neighbor first.
3. The Precision: Did you use a ruler or a guess? The King's temple was built with cubits, not guesses. Precision is a form of worship.
4. The Fragment: What did you do with the crumbs? Did you sweep them away, or did you gather them? The gathering of the small is the beginning of the great.
Check your heart and your mind.
Sarah was admiring the sapphire blue vase when a sudden gust of wind caught the curtain. *Crash!* The vase tipped and fell to the stone floor. It didn't turn to dust; it broke into three clean, sharp pieces that lay scattered on the rug.
Sarah gasped, her eyes filling with tears. "Eliyah! The One is gone! Now there are only three broken things! I have destroyed the King's treasure!"
Eliyah walked over and knelt by the pieces. He picked one up gently, holding it to the light. "Look closer, Sarah," he said. "Is the sapphire gone? Is the beauty lost?"
"No," Sarah whispered, wiping her eyes. "The blue is still there. But it's in pieces. It's not a vase anymore."
"It is still the vase," Eliyah corrected her. "These are not three new vases. These are three **Fractions** of the One. A fraction is just a way of seeing the Whole in parts. If you put them back together, you still have the same amount of stone. The 1 is still here; it's just in a different form. In the Kingdom, we do not throw away the broken things. We name them, and we honor them."
Sarah was sharing a loaf of bread with her brother, Zimri. She broke the loaf into two pieces. One piece was as big as her hand; the other was as small as a pebble.
"Here is your half!" she said, handing Zimri the pebble.
Zimri looked at the tiny crumb and then at Sarah's big piece. "That's not a half, Sarah! That's a trick!"
Eliyah, who was watching from the doorway, stepped forward. "Zimri is right," he said sternly. "In the world, people call any piece a 'half' to get their way. They use math to lie. But in the Kingdom, math is the language of **Justice**. A part is only a **Fraction** if it is **EQUAL** to the other parts."
He took the loaf and cut it precisely down the center with his knife. "Now," he said, "these are true fractions. They are twins. They are just. Remember, Sarah: if it isn't equal, it's just a 'Chunk.' A Steward only deals in Fractions because a Steward loves his neighbor as himself."
Sarah sat by the sundial, watching the shadow move across the stone face. "How do we know which family a fraction belongs to, Eliyah?" she asked. "There are so many possible cuts."
"We look at the Whole," Eliyah replied. "God built the families into time itself. Look at the day. It is divided into two equal parts: Light and Dark. These are the **Halves**. Two halves make one day. This is the Family of Two."
"And the year?" Sarah asked.
"The year is divided into four seasons," Eliyah said. "Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter. These are the **Quarters**. Four quarters make one whole year. These are your anchors, Sarah. The 2 and the 4. They hold the world in balance. If you understand the Half and the Quarter, you understand the rhythm of creation."
Sarah looked at her 4 silver quarters in her purse. "So that's why they are called quarters!" she realized. "Four of them build the one whole dollar, just like four seasons build the year!"
One evening, five blue jays landed on the fence. One of them had a bright white feather in its wing. The others were purely blue.
"Is that a fraction, Eliyah?" Sarah asked. "The fence isn't broken. The birds are all separate. You can't break a bird!"
"Yes," Eliyah smiled. "Sometimes the 'Whole' isn't a single object like an apple. Sometimes, the 'Whole' is a **Group**. Like this flock of 5 birds. The flock is the 1. Each bird is a part of the flock."
"So the white-feathered bird is... one-fifth?" Sarah guessed.
"Precisely," Eliyah said. "This is the math of the Body of Christ. Many members, but one body. If you have 10 fingers, each finger is 1/10th of your hands. We are all fragments of a larger family, held together by the love of the King. Though we are many, we are One."
It was time to record the findings. Eliyah handed Sarah a quill and a fresh piece of parchment. "To write a fraction, Sarah, you must build a house. The house has two floors and a shelf in the middle."
He drew a straight horizontal line on the parchment. "The bottom floor is for the **Denominator**. This is the 'Namer.' It names the family. If the vase broke into 4 pieces, the family name is 'Fourths'. We put a 4 at the bottom to set the foundation."
Sarah wrote a 4 under the line. "And the top floor?"
"The top floor is for the **Numerator**," Eliyah said. "This is the 'Counter.' It counts how many pieces you are holding right now in your hand. If you have 1 piece, you write a 1 on the top."
Sarah wrote the 1. "One-fourth," she read. "The Counter sits on the shelf, and the Namer holds him up."
"Always remember," Eliyah whispered. "The family name (bottom) never changes, no matter how many pieces you count (top). The foundation remains."
Eliyah led Sarah to a room filled with scrolls. On the table lay a map of the Kingdom. "This land," he said, pointing to a green valley, "was given to the tribe of Judah. But the tribe grew, and families needed their own land. How do we divide the land without fighting?"
Sarah looked at the squiggly lines of the rivers and the jagged lines of the mountains. "It's hard to divide land," she said. "It's not a circle or a square."
"True," Eliyah agreed. "That is why we need the **fraction of area**. We don't just cut lines; we measure the worth. If one brother gets the rocky hill (1/2 the size) and the other gets the fertile valley (1/2 the size), is it fair? No. The fraction must represent equal *value*, not just equal *shape*."
Sarah drew a line through the map. "So a fraction is a balance scale?"
"Yes. It balances the gift."
The Royal Baker was in a panic. "Sarah! Help! I need to make a cake for the Prince, but the recipe calls for 'Half a Cup' of sugar, and I only have a 'Whole Cup' measure!"
Sarah looked at the cup. It was made of tin. She couldn't cut it in half. "We need to find the level line," she said.
She filled the cup with water. "Is this full?" "Yes." She poured out the water until it looked like the top and bottom were the same distance from the water line. "Is this half?"
"It looks like it," the Baker said.
"We need to be sure," Sarah said. She found two smaller cups that looked identical. She poured the 'half' into one, and filled the other with the rest. They matched perfectly. "Now we have proof. This is the **Fraction of Capacity**."
In the tower of the city, the Clockmaker was adjusting the great gears. "Time is a circle," he told Sarah. "The day goes round and round. But we need to slice it to use it."
He pointed to the number 12 at the top and the number 6 at the bottom. "If I draw a line from 12 to 6, I cut the day in half. 12 hours becomes 6 hours. But what if I cut from 12 to 3?"
Sarah traced the line. "That looks like a corner of a square."
"It is!" the Clockmaker said. "We call it a 'Quarter Past.' It is 1/4 of the circle. Fractions are the secret gears of time. If you late by a quarter-hour, you have lost a fraction of your life."
The Weaver was making a rug for the throne room. "The pattern must be perfect," she said. "It repeats every 4 threads: Red, Gold, Blue, White."
"Red, Gold, Blue, White," Sarah repeated. "That is a set of 4."
"Yes," said the Weaver. "If I weave 100 threads, what fraction of the rug will be Gold?"
Sarah thought. "In every family of 4, there is 1 Gold. So 1/4 of the rug is Gold."
"Exactly," the Weaver smiled. "Even though the rug is huge, the fraction stays small and true. The pattern of the small rules the pattern of the large. This is the **Fraction of the Pattern**."
Eliyah took Sarah to the Hall of Records. "You are not the first to break the vase," he said. "People have been studying the pieces for thousands of years."
He unrolled a scroll made of papyrus. "The Egyptians loved the 'Unit Fraction.' They only wanted a 1 on top. If they wanted to write 3/4, they wrote 1/2 + 1/4. They believed that every piece should be a 'head' of its own family."
He showed her a clay tablet. "The Babylonians used the number 60. They saw fractions as minutes and seconds. 1/2 was 30 minutes. They looked at the sky to find their parts."
He pointed to a marble stone. "The Romans used the number 12. They divided their coins and their feet into 12 unciae. They loved the 12 because it could be shared by 2, 3, 4, and 6 people easily."
"And us?" Sarah asked.
"We use the Stack," Eliyah said. "We put the counter on the shelf of the namer. We stand on the shoulders of all these giants."
Bezalel the Builder called Sarah to the construction site. "Look at this blueprint," he said. "The drawing is small, but the house is big. The drawing is 1/100th the size of the real house."
"If the drawing says the wall is 1 inch, how big is the real wall?" Sarah asked.
"100 inches!" Bezalel replied. "Fractions allow us to hold a whole castle in our hands. We shrink the world to understand it, and then we expand it to build it. This is the power of Scale."
Sarah looked at the tiny lines. "So a fraction can be a map?"
"Yes. A map is just a fraction of the land. Without fractions, we would be lost."
In the evening, Jubal the Musician played his harp. He plucked a string. *Do!* Then he pressed his finger exactly in the middle of the string and plucked again. *High Do!*
"It sounds the same, but higher!" Sarah cried.
"That is the Octave," Jubal explained. "I cut the string in half (1/2). When you divide a string, you multiply the vibration. The notes you hear—the Third, the Fifth—are all named after fractions. Music is just math that sings."
He played a fast rhythm. *Clap-clap-clap-clap.* "This is 4/4 time. Four beats to a measure. Fractions keep the band together. If I play in 3/4 and you play in 4/4, we will have chaos. But if we agree on the fraction, we have harmony."
Sarah closed her eyes and listened. The whole world seemed to be made of singing numbers.
These are the ancient stories of the pieces that mattered.
The temple courts were crowded with rich men. Their robes rustled as they poured bags of heavy gold into the treasury trumpet. *Clang! Clang! Clang!* The noise announced their wealth. "Look at my whole bags!" they seemed to say. "Look at my abundance!"
Then came a woman in a faded veil. She was a widow. She had no bags of gold. She reached into her hand and pulled out two tiny copper coins—mites. They were the smallest fraction of money in the kingdom. Fractions of a penny. She dropped them in. *Tink. Tink.* A sound so small it was almost silence.
But Jesus heard it. He called His disciples. "Do you see that woman?" He asked. "She has put in more than all of them." The disciples were confused. How could 2 mites be more than 100 talents?
"The rich gave a fraction of their surplus," Jesus explained. "They kept the Whole for themselves. But she... she gave her Whole life. The numerator of her gift (what she gave) matched the denominator of her life (what she had). Her fraction was 2/2—a Whole!"
The sun was setting on the Sea of Galilee. Five thousand men, plus women and children, sat on the grass. They were hungry. The only food was a boy's lunch: five barley loaves and two small fish. A tiny fraction for such a huge crowd.
Jesus took the fraction. He blessed it. He broke it. And then... the fraction began to multiply. Basket after basket was filled. Everyone ate until they were full.
When the feast was over, the grass was covered in broken pieces of bread. Most people would have left them for the birds. "It's just trash," they would say. "We are full."
But Jesus said, "Gather up the fragments that remain, that nothing be lost." The disciples went out with baskets. They picked up every crust. When they returned, they had 12 full baskets! The "Leftover" was greater than the original gift. This teaches us that in God's economy, the fragment is not waste; it is the seed of the next miracle.
Mary of Bethany had a treasure. It was an alabaster box of spikenard, very precious. It was worth a whole year's wages. She brought it to Jesus.
She didn't open the lid to let a little bit out. She didn't measure a teaspoon. She broke the box. She shattered the Whole to release the Agape. The oil poured over Jesus' head and feet. The fragrance filled the house.
Judas complained. "Why was this waste made? We could have sold it and divided the money!" Judas wanted to control the fractions. But Mary knew that love cannot be measured in teaspoons. Sometimes, the only way to worship is to break the whole thing.
A woman had ten silver coins. They were her dowry—her security. One day, she counted them. "One, two, three... nine." One was missing.
She still had 9/10ths of her wealth. That is almost all of it! Most people would say, "90% is good enough." But the woman lit a lamp. She swept the house. She searched the dark corners. She did not rest until she found the 1/10th that was lost.
When she found it, she called her neighbors. "Rejoice with me!" she cried. "I have found the piece which I had lost!" This tells us about the heart of God. He is not satisfied with 99 sheep or 9 coins. He seeks the fraction that is missing until the Whole is restored.
After the resurrection, the disciples were fishing. They caught nothing. Then a Stranger on the shore called out, "Cast the net on the right side."
They cast, and the net was heavy. They dragged it to shore. Simon Peter counted them. One, two, three... one hundred and fifty-three! It was a specific, odd number.
The Bible says, "and for all there were so many, yet was not the net broken." Each fish was a specific fraction of the catch (1/153). The net held them all together. This shows that the Church is a net that can hold every kind of person, every fraction of humanity, without breaking. We are all pieces of the Catch.
The Egyptian Eye (1600 BC): The Eye of Horus
In the hot sands of Egypt, the scribes had a strange rule: they only liked fractions with a "1" on top. They called these "Unit Fractions." Why? Because they believed in the dignity of the single part.
They used a symbol called the "Eye of Horus" to teach this.
The eye was broken into pieces by an evil god, but restored by the good god Thoth. Each part of the eye represented a specific fraction:
The Pupil = 1/4
The Eyebrow = 1/8
The Inner Corner = 1/2
When you added all the parts up, they equaled 63/64. The missing 1/64 was said to be the "magic" that Thoth supplied. For us, this reminds us that even when we do our best math, God supplies the final piece of wholeness.
The Roman Twelve (100 BC): The Duodecimal System
The Roman soldiers marched in legions, but they counted in twelves. They loved the number 12 because it is the "King of Sharing." You can divide 12 by 2, 3, 4, and 6. It is much friendlier than 10!
The Romans used a system of dots to represent fractions of 12. One dot (•) was an "uncia" (ounce), or 1/12. Six dots (::::::) was a "semis," or 1/2. This system is why we still have 12 inches in a foot and 12 hours on a clock face. They built their roads and aqueducts using the power of the 12.
The Indian Stack (500 AD): The Tower of Numbers
In the lush jungles of India, mathematicians were inventing the numbers we use today (0, 1, 2, 3...). They were the first to write fractions by stacking numbers vertically. They put the counter on top of the namer.
But they didn't use a line! They just floated the numbers. $3 \atop 4$. It looked like a little tower. This showed that the numbers were separate but related. It was a picture of a hierarchy—the foundation below, the structure above.
The Moroccan Line (1200 AD): The Shelf of Al-Hassar
A mathematician from Morocco named Al-Hassar looked at the Indian stack and said, "They need a floor to stand on." He drew a horizontal line between the numbers: $\frac{3}{4}$.
This line, the "Vinculum," changed everything. It bound the two numbers into a single object. It was no longer just a "3" and a "4"; it was "Three-Fourths." The line created a relationship. In HavenHub, we call this the "Shelf of Justice" because it holds the counter up for everyone to see.
Fractions are not just for paper; they are written in the sky and the soil.
Look up at the night sky. The moon is a master teacher of fractions.
The New Moon: 0/1 (Darkness).
The First Quarter: 1/4 (A lit curve).
The Full Moon: 4/4 (A whole circle).
The Last Quarter: 3/4 (Waning).
The moon cycles through these fractions every 29.5 days. God set this clock in the sky to teach us that light grows and fades by measure.
A wise farmer divides his land. He does not plant the same seed everywhere.
1/2 for Wheat: The main harvest for bread.
1/4 for Barley: The hardy grain for tough times.
1/8 for Vine: The grapes for joy and wine.
1/8 for Fig: The sweetness of the season.
By fractioning his field, the farmer protects himself. If the wheat fails, the barley may survive. Diversity is the wisdom of the fraction.
Every loaf of bread is a math problem. The perfect loaf requires a ratio of fractions.
3 parts Flour (3/5)
1 part Water (1/5)
1 part Leaven/Salt (1/5)
If the baker forgets the 1/5 of water, the bread is dust. If he forgets the 1/5 of leaven, the bread is a rock. The fractions must work together to create the Whole.
We have 24 hours in a day. How do we steward them?
1/3 for Sleep (8 hours): To restore the body.
1/3 for Work (8 hours): To serve the neighbor.
1/3 for Rest/Prayer (8 hours): To know the King.
When we steal from the Sleep fraction to give to the Work fraction, we become tired and bitter. The Steward respects the boundaries of the day.
Ten stories of how the world is built on pieces.
Master Thomas was teaching his apprentice to build a chair. "Measure the leg," he said. The apprentice looked at the ruler. "It is past the 14, but not yet 15," he said. "It is in the middle."
Thomas smiled. "The middle is 1/2. But look closer. Between the 14 and the 1/2, there is another mark. That is the 1/4. And between that, the 1/8. And the smallest tick is the 1/16."
"Why so many pieces?" the apprentice asked.
"Because if the leg is off by even 1/16th of an inch, the chair will wobble. The comfort of the king depends on the fraction of the inch."
The orchestra was loud. The trumpets blasted. The drums banged. But the conductor waved his wand for silence. "Rest!" he commanded.
"For how long?" the drummer asked.
"For a quarter note," the conductor said. "A quarter of a beat."
"That is too fast to hear!" the drummer argued.
"No," said the conductor. "It is the breath between the sounds. Without the 1/4 rest, the music has no soul. The silence is a fraction of the song."
The child was sick with fever. The mother went to the Apothecary. "I need medicine," she wept.
The Apothecary took a small vial. "This is powerful," he warned. "Give him 1/2 a teaspoon. No more."
"Why not a whole spoon?" the mother asked.
"Because a whole spoon is poison," he said. "But 1/2 a spoon is a cure. The difference between life and death is a fraction."
The ship was caught in a storm. "Speed!" the captain yelled. "How fast are we going?"
The sailor threw a rope with knots into the water. He counted the knots as they slipped through his fingers in 28 seconds.
"We are going 12 and a half knots!" he shouted.
That 1/2 knot mattered. It told the captain they could outrun the storm. Fractions measure the speed of safety.
Two brothers were fighting over the last pizza. It was cut into 6 slices.
"I want 4!" shouted the big brother.
"That's not fair!" cried the little one.
Their father came in. "What is the fraction of peace?" he asked.
"Half," whispered the little brother. "3 out of 6."
"Correct," said the father. "3/6 is the same as 1/2. Equality brings peace."
The tapestry was huge. It showed a lion hunting a stag. "How did you make the eyes look so real?" the Queen asked the weaver.
"I used a half-stitch," the weaver said. "Instead of crossing two threads, I crossed only one. The fraction of the stitch allowed me to turn the corner of the eye. The detail is in the division."
"I am late!" the white rabbit cried. "It is half past two!"
Alice looked at the clock. The big hand pointed to the 6. "Why does 6 mean half?" she asked.
"Because 6 is half of 12," the rabbit said. "The clock is a circle. 30 minutes is 1/2 of the hour. If you don't know your fractions, you will always be late!"
In the old days, pirates used "Pieces of Eight." They would take a Spanish silver dollar and cut it into 8 pie slices.
"I will buy that parrot for 2 bits!" a pirate shouted.
"Two bits" meant 2 pieces of eight. That is 2/8, or 1/4 of a dollar. Even thieves used fractions to trade.
The marathon runner was tired. "I can't go on," he gasped.
"You are 3/4 of the way there!" the crowd cheered. "Only 1/4 left!"
Knowing the fraction gave him strength. He knew the remaining part was smaller than the part he had already run. Fractions give us hope.
The Israelites entered the Promised Land. God said, "The land is Mine. But I give you 9/10ths of the harvest. I only ask for 1/10th back."
Is 1/10th a lot? No. It is a small fraction. But by giving it back, the people acknowledged that the Whole belonged to God. The fraction sanctified the whole.
Read one entry each day to prepare your heart for the pieces.
Scripture: Zechariah 4:10 "For who hath despised the day of small things?"
Thought: We often look for God in the big things—mountains, oceans, and kings. But God is also in the fractions. He is in the tiny seed, the single drop of rain, and the small crumb of bread. Today, look for God in the pieces of your day. A smile is a fraction of love. A penny is a fraction of wealth. Treat the small things with great honor.
Scripture: Proverbs 16:11 "A just weight and balance are the Lord's."
Thought: Justice isn't just about big laws. It's about how we share the smallest things. Are you fair with your time? Are you fair with your toys? A Master Steward practices justice in the fractions. If you cut the cake, let your brother choose the piece. This trains your heart to love your neighbor as yourself.
Scripture: Exodus 20:10 "But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God."
Thought: God gave us 1/7th of our week for rest. This isn't "wasted time." It's the "Holy Fraction." Without the Sabbath, our whole week would lose its balance. Respect the rest. It is the tithe of your time. When you stop working, you are saying, "God is the One who keeps the world spinning, not me."
Scripture: Ephesians 4:16 "From whom the whole body fitly joined together."
Thought: You are one part of your family. You are a fraction! But without you, the family is not a whole number. You are essential. God placed you exactly where you fit. Do not wish to be the hand if you are the foot. Be the best fraction you can be.
Scripture: Psalm 51:17 "The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit."
Thought: Sometimes we feel shattered like the blue vase. We feel broken by sadness or sin. But God loves the pieces. He collects every tear (Psalm 56:8). He is the God of the fragments. He can take your broken pieces and make a mosaic more beautiful than the original.
Scripture: Proverbs 3:9 "Honour the Lord with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase."
Thought: In the Old Testament, the first fraction of the harvest (the firstfruits) was given to God. It was a way of saying, "The whole field belongs to You." When you give the first part of your allowance or your day to God, you bless the whole lump.
Scripture: Leviticus 19:9 "Thou shalt not wholly reap the corners of thy field."
Thought: Farmers were told not to harvest the corners of their fields. They left a fraction for the poor. Do you leave a "corner" in your life? Do you leave some time or money "unspent" so you can help someone in need? This is the fraction of mercy.
A closing ceremony for Unit 1.
Mentor: Behold the Whole. (Hold up a loaf).
Student: It is One. It is full.

Sarah gathered the three shards of the sapphire vase. She brought them to Eliyah's workbench. "Can we fix it?" she asked.
Eliyah took a pot of golden glue. "We will not just fix it," he said. "We will make it better. This is called **Kintsugi**. It is the art of golden repair."
He carefully fit the pieces together. $1/3 + 1/3 + 1/3$. The gold filled the cracks. When he was done, the vase was whole again (3/3), but now it had veins of gold running through it.
"It is more beautiful now," Sarah whispered.
"Yes," Eliyah agreed. "A Whole that has been broken and restored is more precious than a Whole that has never known pain. This is the Gospel of the Fraction. We are broken, but in the hands of the King, we are put back together with gold."
Sarah touched the golden lines. She understood now. The fraction was not the end of the story. It was the beginning of the Glory.
"O King of the Whole and the Part,
Teach me to number my days,
That I may apply my heart to wisdom.
Let me see the fragment as a seed,
And the remainder as a gift.
Let my lines be straight,
And my measures be true.
For You are the One who holds all things together.
